The official name of Switzerland is Swiss Confederation, capital – Bern. The country boarders Austria in the east, France, Germany in the north and Italy in the south. As Switzerland lies the midst of the Alps, the terrain of the country is mainly mountainous. There are three main geographical regions: the Jura, Plateau and the Alps. More than half of the country is covered with The Alps and the Jura Mountains. In the middle of mountain ranges there is a plateau, where the most of the Swiss people live. The richest farmland and country’s industries are situated here.
The climate of Switzerland depends on the influence of the Atlantic ocean and the Alps. The weather varies with the altitude: from cool to warm, from cloudy to clear. The summers are usually humid with occasional showers.
